What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a revolutionary hair removal procedure that involves destroying the hair follicles using laser radiation. Due to the action of laser pulses, the melanin pigment located in the hair absorbs light waves and is destroyed along with neighbouring cells of the matrix (hair growth zone). A few weeks after the session, the hair falls out along with the dead root.
You require a course of hair removal spaced 4-6 weeks apart for best results. The number of hairs, growth rate, and treatment area determine the amount of procedures needed. Typically, the course of treatments ranges from 6 to 10 and depends on the settings of the laser installation (this is affected, among other things, by your skin tone and hair colour).
At Permanent Makeup Melbourne, we perform laser hair removal using certified equipment and in compliance with all technical standards!

Benefits of laser hair removal?
The technique allows you to use an alexandrite laser:
- for any skin type;
- on tanned skin;
- for removing hair of all colours, excluding grey and vellus hair;
- painless; the sapphire tip is cooled to 15°C;
- safe—does not damage or heat the skin, so there are no burns or pigmentation;
- fast: epilation of an area of 10 cm2 takes less than half a minute;
- for removing ingrown hairs;
- on any area of the skin, as well as on sensitive areas (deep epilation of the bikini area, above the upper lip, in the armpits);
- both women and men.
You feel comfortable during the procedure; thanks to the cooling nozzle, only a slight chill is felt on the skin.
List of contraindications:
- Pregnancy.
- Lactation.
- The active phase of herpes is on all areas of the body or face.
- Damage and diseases of the skin.
- Oncological diseases.
- ARVs and colds.
- It is not advised to take medications from the fluoroquinolone group or tetracycline group for two weeks.
Laser hair removal is carried out after cleaning the skin in the epilated area. The specialist applies the gel for laser procedures with a disposable spatula. The gel acts as a conductor between the laser beam and the hair follicle and promotes the sliding of the laser tip.
After the procedure, the specialist removes the gel from the skin and applies moisturiser. Depending on the number of sessions completed, the client schedules a follow-up appointment at least four weeks in advance.
Recommendations to follow after laser hair removal:
- Do not apply alcohol-containing products to treated skin areas.
- Avoid active sun exposure for 3-5 days after the procedure.
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (sauna, bathhouse, etc.) for the first few days after hair removal.
- Avoid visiting both outdoor bodies of water and swimming pools.
- For best outcomes in between procedures, we DO NOT recommend using other depilation techniques (such as sugaring, waxing, tweezers, epilation, etc.).
- Follow the breaks between procedures recommended by your specialist.
Only after finishing a complete course of laser hair removal within the assigned time frame will you achieve the desired result – smooth skin!
Laser hair removal and preparation for the procedure:
- The day before or on the day of the procedure, remove hair from the epilated area with a razor. Tweezers, wax, sugaring, and electric epilators cannot be used.
- Do not apply creams, oils, or lotions the day before your session.
- Avoid intense tanning and solarium for three days before and after hair removal.
